Squad Clash explained: how the 3-minute battles work
Squad Clash is PlayYourCup's head-to-head mode: send your eleven into a fast, server-decided match against a rival of similar strength, win coins and trophies, and climb the Squad League. Here's how a clash plays out and how to win more of them.
What a clash actually is
A Squad Clash pits your saved eleven against an opponent squad over a three-minute, animated match. You don't control players in real time — the result is decided by your squad's overall strength against the rival's, with a server seed adding the unpredictability that makes football football. Stronger squads win more often, but upsets happen, exactly as they should.
Matchmaking finds you a rival within roughly two strength points of your own team, so clashes are competitive rather than hopeless mismatches. Some opponents are other managers; others are believable AI sides drawn from a pool, each with a manager name, a region, and a playing style. Either way, you'll see their full eleven once the match is announced.
The flow is deliberately tense: a short matchmaking search, the opponent is revealed, kick-off, a live momentum bar that swings without giving the score away, then full time and the result. The outcome is locked server-side from the moment you start, so leaving the screen is fine — you'll get a notification when it resolves.
Winning coins, trophies and your league place
Win a clash and you bank coins plus trophies. Coins go straight into your wallet to spend on new players or energy. Trophies are your ranking currency for the Squad League — a leaderboard entirely separate from the Game Oracle prediction board, so you can be a force in one, both, or neither.
Trophy gains scale with the result and the matchup: beating a stronger side is worth more than seeing off a weaker one, which rewards brave matchmaking over farming easy wins. Draws and losses still move the needle, and your win-rate is tracked as a tiebreaker, so consistency matters as much as raw trophy count.
Energy: why you can't clash forever
Every clash drains energy from the eleven players who took part — more after a win, less after a loss — so a fresh squad isn't an infinite resource. Your eleven must average above sixty per cent energy to enter a clash; below that, the team is "tired" and needs to recover first. In practice a rested squad is good for two or three clashes before it needs a break.
You have three ways to get back on the pitch: wait it out (energy regenerates at about six per cent an hour), rotate tired starters out for fresh cards from your bench or collection, or spend coins on a full refill that tops the whole eleven back to one hundred. Energy is the natural pace-setter of the mode — it nudges you to build squad depth rather than ride the same six players into the ground.
Challenge friends and take revenge
Beyond random matchmaking, you can challenge a friend directly: their current squad is snapshotted and you clash against it instantly. If someone clashes your squad while you're away, you'll find it waiting in your "attacked" feed back at Training Camp — with a one-tap Take Revenge button to clash straight back.
Because a friend clash uses a snapshot, nobody has to be online at the same time, and defending never drains your energy — so there's no penalty for being popular. It's the social heart of the mode: build the best eleven you can, then prove it against the people you know.
